Capilano, North Vancouver
ThistleDown House is an oasis of tranquility. Nestled in its own half-acre of superb gardens it has absorbed all the calmness of its ninety-year life, but today that gentle nature is tempered by a rich flow of guests from around the world, making a cosmopolitan new life for a heritage-listed, award-winning and happy old lady.
ThistleDown House was the recipient of the Heritage Award a few years ago, immediately after being lovingly restored with great care and returned to its arts & crafts past. Inside – and in the gardens — are collections of antiques, hand-crafted furnishings and works of art from around the world.
There are six rooms to choose from, each with its own character and special appeal, all fitted with the finest linens and amenities, en-suite bathrooms, the greatest attention to detail and your comfort in mind.
Breakfasts at ThistleDown House are culinary works of art. From a repertoire of only-they-know-how-many items, Virginia, Liz, and Innkeeper Judy craft courses that have you dashing away for your camera, first, and then settling in with smiles and many an “mmmmmmm” after that. Such items as fillet of organic steelhead trout with risotto and anise butter, a gallimaufry of wild mushrooms spilled from a puffed pastry case, smoked turkey and asparagus crepe with Chantilly sauce, alder-smoked wild Coho salmon with fennel and fiddlehead greens, four-cheese and pear croustadine with double-smoked wild boar bacon – and more and more.
In 2010 ThistleDown was named one of the ten best bed & breakfast inns in Canada by Trip Advisor.
